Virtual Workshop: Council of Michigan Foundations

Stewarding Change: The Role of Foundations in Leading & Supporting Values-Driven Executive Transitions

Our sector is experiencing a surge of leadership transitions — and data suggests more are ahead, driven by generational shifts, funding instability, burnout, and broader structural challenges. Coordinated with Leading Forward, this session explores two facets of this reality: leadership transitions within foundations themselves, and the role foundations can play when their nonprofit partners experience change.

Together, participants will unpack the makings of values-aligned executive transitions that strengthen both internal practice and external impact, and explore the full range of ways foundations can support grantee partners — from simple practices of care and dialogue to more intentional funding portfolios and investments in long-term organizational sustainability. Expect:

  • actionable insights

  • peer learning

  • high-impact resources from the field

Open to CMF members and non-member foundation staff and trustees.

**Live attendance is encouraged for Q&A and discussion; a recording will be shared with all registrants.**
